Card catalog notes: Capt. Eli Barnes came from Long Island when the British took over, fled in such haste [that he] brought an unbaked batch of bread. Lived at 325 Main St., East Berlin, Conn., in a house built in 1775. It later was the site of part of the Kelsey Mfg. Co. He also kept a Public House where the south chamber was a ballroom ; also owned a farm in Kensington on Southington Rd. for 13 years. He was a selectman in the Town of Berlin 1800-1802. Died at age 62.
