Educated in Kensington and Berlin Academy. Began apprenticeship at age 16 in carpenter's trade; served 4 yrs with J.G.L. Carpenter of New Britain, receiving $300.00 per year and board. Worked in Bridgeport 6 months constructing plant of Ferris Cutlery. Frederick was a contractor for the construction of all kinds of wood and brick buildings - shop 1/4 mile west of Berlin Depot - assortment of prime lumber, shingles, lathes and nails. Had an ad in the "Church Record", publication of Kensington Congregational Church in May 1885.
