Franklin was an apprentice of J.E. North Company. He was affiliated with Roys and Wilcox in 1834; was an actual partner. He had a shop in North Greenwich with Josiah Wilcox but he returned to Berlin while Wilcox stayed there with Benjamin E. Savage, both industrialists. He bought 44 Main Street, East Berlin from Noah C. Smith in 1845; property was retained by Roy's interrests until 1865.
He joined Berlin Congregational Church in 1840 by Certificate.
He was a Berlin Selectman in 1842.
Franklin lived at 944 Worthington Ridge with daughters Julia, Sarah and Hattie.
He died at age 76 years.
