Ruth died at age 93 at Jerome Home, New Britain; had been a resident of berlin for 60 years.
Predeceased by her husband, Ralph H. Allen.
She was a graduate of Meriden High School.
Graduate of Teacher's College of Connecticut [CCSU] with BS in Education.
Graduate of Boston University with Master of Art and Music degree.
Studied at University of Michigan School of Music and the University of Toronto.
Training teacher at Vance and Camp Schools in New Britain [part of School of Education of CCSU].
Taught vocal music at Danburt High School and Wethersfield elementary schools.
Returned to New Britain schools and CCSU faculty; introduced Orff-Schulwerk approach to music instruction.
President of New Britain College Club [AAUW].
Served as arts chairman and corresponding secretary of state AAUW.
Docent at New Britain Museum of American Art.
Long time member of New Britain Musical Club.
Board member of New Britain Public Library and Berlin Free Library. |
