Elected at first Berlin Town Meeting (listed variously as June 13, 1785 or 1787) for organizational purposes. He was the Collector of State Taxes (road taxes). His name is recorded as both John and Jonathan. He and his wife, Sarah, joined the Kensington Congregational Church Sept. 11, 1763 where he owned the covenant since 1756. His children were baptized there, 1763-1772. His name is recorded as John and Jonathan on some records, also last name is spelled Belding on some records.
