Michael died at age 59 at home; he had cancer. He lived on Farmington Avenue, Berlin. He attended New Britain schools. In 1954 he joined the U.S. Marines and was discharged in 1957 after serving in Japan. He worked in various managerial positions in local grocery stores including, Sussman's, Stop and Shop, and First National. He was a member of the American Legion and Local 371 of the Teamsters Union, AFL-CIO. He was survived by his wife, Carol; his father and step-mother, Michael C. and Valia; three sons, Steven, Mark A. and Michael C. III; a daughter, Karen Dahlgren; three step-children, Deborah, Kevin and Maggie Gronbach; two grandchildren, Eric Ziegler and Jennifer Bonaiuto; a sister, Amelia Villara; a niece, Lisa DeGroff; a nephew, Joseph Villara; a great-nephew, several aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral was at Kensington Congregational Church; calling hours at Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home, New Britain. Burial at Maple Cemetery with full military honors. Memorial donation to Hospice of Central Connecticut.
