Living in Palm Bay, FL in 1992. Robert died at age 79 at New Britain General Hospital as a result of mesothelioma asbestos lung cancer. Formerly of New Britain, he lived in Kensington for over 40 years. He was employed by Lawrence Johnson, Inc. as a painter and worked as a representative for the Painter's Union, District Council #50.
Robert was a US Marine veteran of WWII, serving on the Houston.
He was a member of Kensington Congregational Church, where he served as a trustee and deacon and a member of Community Presbyterian Church in Englewood, FL. He was a lifetime member of the Painter's Union and a member of yhe USS Houston Association. He served as a volunteer at the Daily Bread soup kitchen in Florida. He was active in Boy Scouts and helped to organize a troop at the Klingberg Center with the New Britain Lion's Club and the late Haddon Klingberg.
He was survived by his wife, Marilyn of 57 years; a son, Jeffrey R. Capen and his wife, Debra of Berlin; three daughters, Linda Nelson and her husband, Rick of Southington, Donna Harwood and her fiance', Ken Kopacz of Higganum, Debbie Paradis and her husband, Mike of Avon; a brother, Donald C. Capen of West Simsbury; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, David Capen and a sister, Shirley [Capen] Anderson.
Memorial service at Kensington Congregational Church. No calling hours. Memorial donations to Kensington Congregational Church or to the American Lung Association. Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
