Died at age 84 years. Was residing at Avery Heights, Hartford, CT. Was a former resident of Kensington, New Britain, and Jensen Beach, FL.
He attended New Britain schools and graduated from New Britain High School in 1930 . He was also a graduate of Rutgers School of Banking. Worked for New Britain Bank and Trust Company from 1930 until retiring in 1973 as Chairman of the Board and the Executive Committee. He was a past president of the Connecticut Fiduciaries Fund and past chairman of the Trust Division of the Connecticut Bankers Association. Held directorships in the Union Manufacturing Co., the Herald Publishing Co., and J.B. Coggins Manufacturing Company.
He was a Director of New Britain General Hospital for 26 years, head of the Finance Committee for 23 years and Chairman of the Board from 1973 to 1977. Elected Director Emiritus of the hospital in 1990.
He was active in many charities. Instrumental in establishment of the New Britain Foundation for Public Giving, a trustee of the A.W. Stanley Charitable Foundation, and President and Chairman of the Robert C. Vance Foundation for more than 20 years. Served on the boards of YMCA , YWCA, Wheeler Clinic, Mooreland Hill School, Klingberg Family Centers, and was tresurer of the CCSU Foundation. Received the Red Feather Award for significant and devoted service to the community in 1969.
He was a past president of the Rotary Club and was a member of South Congregational-First Baptist Church, Shuttle Meadow Country Club, Home Club of Meriden, the New Britain Club, Limestone Fishing Club, Connecticut Seniors Golf Association, Saturday Night Round Table and Bayside Yacht Club of Northport, ME.
Funeral services were held at South Congregational-First Baptist Church, New Britain. Calling hours were at Carlson Funeral Home, New Britain. Memorial donations to New Britain General Hospital or charity of donor's choice.
