1 North reports that he first came to Berlin as early as 1793 and lived for a time on Berlin St. in a house known as Fuller's Tavern, later owned by the Atwater Family. He had a house on the southwest corner of Main St. and Rte. 72 in East Berlin (it burned in 1891) and it was reported by Meyers to have been added onto so many times that "it had more gables than any other house in town." He had a clock factory across the street. Sixteen yokes of oxen were used to move the old house to its present location. It was bought by Edwin Savage and made into a residential home in 1837. In 1985 it was owned by Anna Lindquist. He made his clocks at first by whittlling the cogs with a pen knife. He may have later made clocks at a water power site on Spruce Brook. He was the brother-in-law of Simeon North, came to Berlin ca 1793. He was a member of Harmony Lodge (Masons) # 20 in 1802. North. History of Berlin. p. 221, 289 North, Dexter. John North of Farmington CT and his Descendants - p.45 Meyers. Other times, other voices, p. 96 Brandegee, p. 40
