Ca. 1661 Daniel Clark and John Moore received grants of four hundred acres of land in what is presently the southeastern boundary of New Britain to the northern border of Meriden. He sold his portion of the land to Jonathan Gilbert, a tavern keeper in Hartford in 1672. He held various offices and was appointed to the General Court, State of Conn., was also secretary and clerk of the County Court of Hartford and a member of the committee to "treatise" with the Indians.
