Jonathan was baptized at Kensington Congregational Church. He first settled in Shelburne, Vermont, but was forced to leave "on account of the Indians" and lived for a time in North Pinnacle, Quebec. He was married to Thankful Clark (Sept. 14, 1775-Oct. 21, 1809) on December 29, 1791. They had four children:
Orilla (1792-1864) m. Shubael Smith, of Frelighsburg, P.Q. on Feb. 18, 1813
Betsey "died young"
Jonathan Edwards (b. March 10, 1799
Asahel (b. March 7, 1801)
Samuel Clark, (b. July 9, 1803)
