1 Baptized in the Kensington Congregational Church as an adult. He was appointed deacon of KCC "which he at length accepted". Beers [p.411] records that he was a manufacturer [ R. Moore and Sons]. He came to Berlin in order to secure better water power and was the first to successfully make and introduce hydraulic cement as an article of commerce into the markets of the country He held several local offices of honor and trust in Berlin, including that of justice o the peace, and as a member of the CT Light Infantry, in which he held interest in military affairs. "He was well liked by everyone." He owned mill on "Sabbethe River" which had been erected and formerly owned by Hezekiah Winchell and later known as Steelyard Shop Pond. The mill became famous for its buckwheat flour. His son, Roswell invented a contrivance for removing all the hull of the grain which made the grain a finer quality. He and his son had a cement mill and a lathe for turning wood. [See also Solomon Winchell, ID #14848]. Just before 1840 he purchased an area around 10 Main Street, Kensington and erected a stone and cement dam; two buildings were destroyed by fire. He was president and owner of Moore Manufacturing Company. Made chisels, hammers and meat cleavers. During 1873, he was a Corporator of Berlin Savings Bank. He was a Selectman in 1883, 1884 and 1886.
