Hattie Carthan and her block associations were responsible for planting 1500 trees in Brooklyn, New York in the 1960s, beautifying the neighborhood and helping to clean the streets. Hattie also led the effort to preserve a rare Southern Magnolia tree, a tree which still stands today and is the only living landmark in the country.
Come learn about this amazing woman with Librarian Lindsay Delligan of the Cora Belden Library!
