Welcome to the New Pecking Order!

We’re changing the way we organize our adult non-fiction books!

July 18, 2024

This September, we’ll be switching over to a new labeling system in our adult non-fiction section, which we’ve named the Pecking Order. (Yes, that’s a pun on our name, Berlin-Peck!)

As you probably know, each library book has a label that tells us where it belongs on the shelf. For non-fiction books, that label has a Dewey Decimal number that represents a subject. Starting in September, those numbers will be replaced with a set of words that serve a similar purpose. For a book like Under the Henfluence, the label will change from numbers like 636.5 DANOVICH to words like ANIMALS—FARM—CHICKENS—Danovich. We’re hoping this change will make it easier to browse and find books.

We’d love to hear your feedback! Feel free to email us at library@berlinpeck.org with any questions, comments, or concerns. You can also visit us at the desk, where we’re holding a vote to help us decide where certain books belong!
