    Library Director’s Message

    Hello!

This month marks my two-year anniversary as the director of the Berlin Peck Library. I could not have asked for a better community to serve and I’m so happy to be here. I know for sure we have some of the best library staff members in the business! In fact, many of them live right here in Berlin, which makes our customer service extra special. We love hearing your ideas (and implementing them—more new books, a growing ESL collection, and a place to sit outside!) and connecting with our community.

A sense of home is such a wonderful feeling and that’s how Berlin feels to me two years in. This month the refresh of our interior “home”—the place where you gather, learn, connect, find materials, and use our computers—will be complete. While the layout is the same, we hope this refreshed space feels comfortable and welcoming and much like “home” to you. Though we don’t allow any sleepovers as depicted in the 1979 book “Help I’m a Prisoner in the Library” (one of my favorites as a kid)… we do welcome everyone at the library, and we invite you to come to see our new carpet later this month! I hope you will take us up on the invitation.

We are proud of our community, and we are offering some programs that highlight our history this month. On June 17 we will host our second annual Juneteenth event in partnership with the Berlin Equity Action Team (BEAT). This is the first year that the Town of Berlin is recognizing this as a holiday and our Town offices and library will be closed on Monday June 19, 2023, in observance of Juneteenth. We’re also partnering Berlin’s Economic Development department on a tiny art show with the theme My Hometown. Pick up a canvas at the library and use your talent to show us what Berlin, your hometown, means to you. We look forward to seeing you (and maybe your art?) at the library soon.

    Warmly,

    Kim
