The library is able to accept used books in good condition, monetary donations, and automobile donations. Your donations are tax-deductible!
Accepting Book Donations WEDNESDAY ONLY
The Friends Book Sale is accepting donations while the sale is open on Wednesdays. Visit the Book Sale page for hours.
The library accepts donations of gently used books, recorded books, CDs, DVDs, Blu-Ray discs, video games, board games, cake pans, and puzzles.
All donations become the property of the Friends of the Berlin-Peck Memorial Library, and may be added to the collection, sold at the book sale, or discarded. The same criteria used for inclusion in the library’s collection also apply to gifts. Donations added to the collection may be subsequently withdrawn when they are worn or when their content is no longer current.
Donations should be clean and in good condition. Please make sure donated items are clean, with no torn pages, underlining, highlighting, marginal comments, or bad smells. If an item has orange or black spots on the page edges, this is a sign of mold and you should discard in your trash. Donated items that are not in good condition will be refused or discarded.
We also cannot accept textbooks, encyclopedias, magazines, VHS or cassette tapes, records, or outdated (older than 5 years) computer books, medical texts, tax guides, almanacs, travel books, law books, etc.
Please bring donations downstairs to the Friends book sale.
Please do not put donations in the book drop or on the bench in front of the book drop.
The Friends of the Berlin-Peck Memorial Library is a volunteer organization with limited time to sort donated books, and limited storage space. Please support the Friends by following the donation rules.
Recycling. Your unwanted books can be placed in your regular recycling. Paperback books: recycle the book whole, including the binding. Hardcover books: remove the hard cover (because it has non-paper components). For instructions, visit instructables.com/unbind-a-hardcover-book.
Donating. Charities or thrift stores like Goodwill, Salvation Army, and Savers accept books. Please contact them directly if you have any questions. You can sell or give away your old books on websites like Craigslist.org, Freecycle.org, and Facebook marketplace.
Crafts. Check out our book crafts page for fun crafts that let you recycle your old books into something that shows off your love of the written word!
The ongoing support of generous patrons like you determines what the Library is today, and what it will be in years to come. Monetary gifts allow us to purchase special items or pay for programs that are beyond our normal means. Your gift helps keep these services FREE.

Honor and Memorial Gifts
A gift made in one’s name is a meaningful way to mark a special occasion or to remember or honor a beloved family member, respected friend, or colleague. When you make a Memorial or Honor gift to the Berlin-Peck Memorial Library, we’ll send your honoree or their family a grateful letter acknowledging your generosity.
Tax Deductible Donations
Donations are tax-deductible. The library is able to provide you with a receipt for tax purposes; however, we cannot assign a dollar value to your donation.
