    Library Director’s Message

The Berlin-Peck Memorial Library has an amazing month in store for you!

In Berlin, September means The Berlin Fair. In our library, September also means Library Card Sign Up Month! This is the time of year that we celebrate our library and remind everyone about the value of a library card. Library cards are not just for checking out books. Did you know that your Berlin-Peck card will give you free access to online databases such as Consumer Reports, online newspapers such as The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal, downloadable eBooks and audiobooks, items from our Library of Things (such as outdoor movie projectors, metal detectors, games, etc.), free or reduced museum passes and much more?

Everyone who gets a new library card or renews their current card during September will be entered into a raffle drawing! Already have an up-to-date library card? Refer friends and family to get their own library card, and you’ll both earn an entry in the drawing.

Did you know that Berlin library accounts expire automatically every three years, regardless of how often you use the library? Renewing your library card provides an opportunity for library staff to update your contact information. It can also help us measure our current impact on our community and affects how we are funded. To check the status of your library card, call or visit the library.

I’d also like to point out a couple more exciting things happening this month. As a reminder, we will soon begin implementing the new labeling system in our adult non-fiction section (see The Pecking Order page for details) and books in that section will be moving. Library staff are happy to help you locate nonfiction books during this process, if needed. Lastly, the CT Department of Revenue Services will be in our lobby on Monday, September 9th from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm to answer CT tax questions and explain their new online filing system, myconneCT.

I value your feedback and invite you to visit, arrange a personal library tour, or reach out via email to get in touch. Thank you for being part of our vibrant library community!

    Library Director
